The music from the "first great band of the Obama years" beckons to a generation of disillusioned youth, calling them back to a time when a song could offer temporary relief from the tedium and ennui of day to day monotony.
A two person musical ensemble originating from Midland. Lauren handles lead vocals and Marc plays the guitar and provides self made background music for the two to play along with. Their unique style combines the upbeat spirit of folk rock and country from the 60's and 70's with modern hip hop and electronic instrumentation.
This is a band that has nothing to offer unless you enjoy alternative rock at its best. This group has a combination of technique, style and unique songwriting that will leave you begging for more. Feel free to come and see them at a show some time, if you think you can really handle it.
They take anything that makes a sound, play it, hit it, break it, shake it, maybe light it on fire, record all of those sounds, arrange them in a computer, then Ben sings. Close your eyes and imagine, choirs of eleven-year-old boys, African aborigines with didgeridoos and rain sticks, a marching band dressing in burnt orange with blue tassels, and the two guys from the dueling piano bar. They don't sound like that, but they wish we did.
She has been working in music since a young teenager - through the world, through Detroit and as a songwriter, keyboardist, performance artist, guitar player and singer. She won 3 Detroit Music Awards in 2010 and was nominated a total of 17 times from 2009-2010. Elements of Rock, Pop, Folk and Punk can be found in her music. Her unusual piano and guitar playing, coupled with her strong voice and vocal imagery, hooks and melody, and great band makes the listener want more.
A songwriting and production duo from Grand Rapids. The duo released their first EP entitled "1982" in March of 2008 and was even honored by WYCE with 2 "Jammie Award" nominations (Best New Local Artist, Listener's Choice Award). They are currently working on their first full length album and playing around their hometown.
Their music leans on the time-tested melodies of bygone days, unearthing and reinventing the sounds of the 60s while drawing heavily from contemporary ideals and experiences. The energy of both old and new provides for albums that are rich in homespun warmth, as well as a live show that moves effortlessly from airy rock and roll, to harmony rich folk-rock, to subdued alt-country.
Don’t be fooled by yet “another duo” on the scene. These girls are guitar slayin‘, harmonica slingin‘, show-stopping mad women on the stage. With sing-a-long rock anthems and catchy pop-laden hooks, they will demand your attention and command you to the dance floor.
Influenced by bands like Drop Dead Gorgeous and Dance Gavin Dance, they find a harmonious balance between melody and aggressive breakdowns. Having sold over 16,000 copies of their debut album, they have proven that it's entirely possible for newcomers to kick down doors and burst onto the scene.
Formed in early 2011. In just a few short months, this band has written 8 original songs, perfected numerous covers, and rocked out several shows. With punchy riffs, catchy hooks, and a live show that is unparalleled with energy and excitement, they are on a mission to soon be considered one of Metro Detroit's best Pop Punk/Alternative bands.
